As described by the WHO in their Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan "mental well-being makes up an integral part of an individual's capacity to lead a fulfilling life, including the ability to form relationships, study, work or pursue leisure interests, as well as to make day-to-day decisions and choices". It is essential then that we learn core attributes of resilience and confidence that will allow us to develop and solidify our mental health in the formative stages of life, then we can be equipped to deal with the complex choices and potential adversities they will face as we grow older.
Our home environment and family play a critical role in our development as a child, therefore it is no wonder why family-based therapies are highly effective. In recent studies, Family Based Therapies demonstrated significant improvement in symptomatology not only in children but also for their mothers. It is for this reason that I often implement a system's approach when working with child or adolescents. If you think your child/adolescent might benefit from seeking support, there is no better time than now.
